Dreambert and Bedsmith, two beings of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar town, feeling lost and confused. Just as panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He suggests that they must have passed out while watching television the night before, but before they can explain more, the situation gets even stranger. A creature named Starlow, of the Star Sprite species, arrives, insisting that she is their friend. She says that they had plans to go out, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. He wanders around the town, acting as if he does not recognize either his surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to communicate with them as if they were longtime friends. As he leads them, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to reassure them. Dreambert and Bedsmith, however, remain disoriented and unable to understand their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day goes on, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned, at first thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, she begins to worry that something is wrong with their memories. By the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty deepens, and she wonders if there is more to their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house where they first woke up, and Wonky – who still claims to be their father – offers them an unfamiliar bed. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they fall asleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories looms unanswered as they drift into a restless sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
